Scorpion Optics 1-4x IR Review: Affordable & Reliable LPVO

scorpion optics

The Scorpion Optics 1-4×24 LPVO is a reliable low-powered optic with a Second Focal Point and incredible daytime illumination. Attach it using the Scorpion Optics Cantilever Mount and you’ve got a great LPVO setup for your tactical firearm in Canada.

During my time as a Combat Engineer in the Armed Forces, the optic we used was set around 3.4x magnification, and was good for engaging targets upwards of 400 meters approximately.

Our effective range was around 200 meters. Anything closer than that was highly effective.

The Scorpion Optics Vision Series 1-4×24 IR is an affordable & versatile LPVO that allows the user to either have the magnification set all the way down for close-range, or have it set higher up to 4x magnification for those long-distant engagements.

Full Disclosure

Scorpion Optics did send me their 1-4x IR LPVO to review. I have no relation with Scorpion Optics, and they did not pay me, nor do I make any commissions on sales of their products.

I am still going to give my honest opinion of this optic in order to allow you to make an informed decision before making a purchase on an optic for your rifle.

Is the Scorpion Optics 1-4x LPVO Worth It?

At the time of this article, the Scorpion Optics 1-4x IR has a very affordable cost at around $356.95 CDN (around $270 USD).

Check Scorpion Optics for the latest pricing!

When compared to it’s competitors, the Scorpion Optics 1-4×24 IR is very well-priced for the optic you’re getting. The 1-4x variable magnification is perfect for shooters who don’t need to reach very far distances.

Initial Thoughts

Unboxing the Scorpion Optics Vison Series 1-4x IR

Inside the package with the optic was a lanyard and a couple of stickers.

The box which contains the optic is pretty nice with a smooth exterior.

When I opened the box, the optic was sitting in laser cut foam with lens covers, two ring mounts, a microfiber cloth, and an Allen Key.

Once I mounted the Series 1-4×24 IR LPVO, I was really pleased with how it looked. The glass is so clear, and it focuses really well on the target.

Glass

With both eyes open, and my dominant eye looking through the scope, I would set the eye relief back until I couldn’t even tell that I was looking through a scope.

I was very impressed with how clear the picture sight was.

Then I illuminated the reticle dot, and it was as if I was looking forward normally with both eyes open, yet I saw a red dot at whatever I was looking at.

This allows for excellent situational awareness, as both eyes are open. With my rifle up to the shoulder, I can look down the sight with my right eye, my left eye focused at the target as well, and still have my peripheral vision.

This is something difficult to capture with photo or video, and even describe with words, but for close-quarters, this is an excellent function.

SFP Focal Point

The Scorpion Optics 1-4x IR LPVO used a Second Focal Point (SFP).

What’s the difference between SFP and FFP?

The difference between SFP and FFP is that with SFP your reticle will remain the same size regardless of what magnification you’re at, while with FFP your reticle will get larger and zoom in with the picture. In my opinion, SFP is ideal for ranges under 300 meters, while FFP is preferable for long-distance shooting.

With a 1-4x magnification, SFP is the way to go. In the end, it’s all preference, but in my opinion if you’re not using an optic with at least 8x magnification, then stick with SFP.

Illuminated Reticle

On the left side of the Scorpion Optics 1-4x LPVO is a turret for illuminating the reticle dot that goes from 0 to 11.

I’m a big fan of this illuminated reticle LPVO. Having only the dot illuminated is my preference.

As I said earlier, for close-quarters, having both eyes open and being able to see exactly where the rifle is aiming at is critical for having good situational awareness.

Even on a sunny day, the illuminated reticle was visible on the highest setting.

Quality & Workmanship

If you’re like me, when you see something is made in China, there’s a bit of concern. But I am very impressed with the Scorpion Optics Series LPVO build and quality.

This is definitely not your “China-Made Amazon cheap scope”. This optic is built with good quality materials and very clear glass.

It has a decent weight to it, the kind that makes you say “this is solid”.

If an optic made with this kind of quality was built and sold here in Canada, the price would be at least double.

Given the number of more commonly known rifle scope brands out there, I understand Scorpion Optics’ decision to have their products made in China, yet doing so without compromising on quality.

Magnification 1-4x

Range: Approximately 150 meters

The magnification on the Scorpion Optics Vision Series LPVO is set for 1-4x.

The dial for increasing and decreasing the magnification is firm enough so it doesn’t slip randomly, but not too firm where it’s difficult to zoom in and out. It turns very smooth and consistent.

I would have liked to have had a Throw Lever option as they’re very useful on Low Powered Variable Optics.

Even if Scorpion Optics sold one separately that could be affixed to optic would be awesome. You can buy some online, but nothing is guaranteed to work with different makes of optics.

Turrets Adjustable 1/2 MOA Increments

scorpion optics lpvo
Turrets: Adjustable in increments of 1/2 MOA

With a magnification of up to 4x, having a 1/2 MOA increment is ideal. Anything more fine-tune than this isn’t necessary.

The turrets for the 1-4x IR move very nicely and with even pressure. The markings are good as well.

I really like the locked-position feature, oppose to having a cap to screw on and off. To lock the MOA adjustment turret in place, you push it down.

The numbering is in increments of 2 and us adjustable up to 300 MOA. For a 1-4x optic, this is very impressive!

Cantilever Mount

Scorpion Optics has a Cantilever Mount which is ideal for Low Powered Variable Optics.

It’s a one-piece mount and sits nice and low to the rail, which is what you want when shooting at close-medium distances.

It’s made from T6 Aircraft Aluminum which is both lightweight and durable.

Torx Screws on the Cantilever Mount

There are six torx screws for each cap oppose to the traditional four. This makes applying even pressure easier.

The cantilever mount does include a small Torx Wrench for the screws and included two spare screws.

There’s also torgue specs for the cap screws, which is set for 20 inch-lbs. The cross bolt screws are meant to be torqued for 36-40 inch-lbs.

If you don’t have a torque screw driver, I recommend getting one.

This is the one I use from Amazon.

They’re not too expensive and using one could prevent under-torque or over-torque. Either can be bad. So it’s helpful getting it right every time.

Lifetime Warranty

Scorpion Outdoors offers a “Sting-Free” Lifetime Warranty for their rifle scopes. The warranty is fully transferrable and proof of purchase is not required (except for the Marskman series, proof of purchase may be required).

Sting-Free Warranty

Essentially, if you take good care of your equipment and something on it malfunctions due to a manufacturing defect, Scorpion Optics will repair or replace the optic.

You are required to pay for shipping it there, but they’ll ship the product back for free. This makes sense because someone could ship an item that was deliberately damaged.

If you’re having problems with your optic (or any Scorpion Outdoors products) just reach out to their team to see what course of action to take.

Final Thoughts

Overall I’m extremely pleased with the Scorpion Optics Vision Series 1-4x IR LPVO.

It’s very well-built, has good functionality, and is affordable at around $330. Add the cantilever mount and you got yourself a pretty sweet setup for your tactical rifle.
