MDT LSS Gen2 Chassis Review: Take Your Rifle To The Next Level

The MDT LSS Gen2 chassis is a solid and very robust chassis for a selection of centerfire and rimfire bolt-action rifles. The LSS Gen2 (which stands for Light Sniper System) is made using 6061 Aluminum with a nice Cerakote finish.

I would argue that having a solid chassis when building or upgrading a rifle should be the go-to. It’s not the trigger or the scope that will directly improve your grouping, but the body that the action sits in.

The rifle that I used with the LSS Gen2 chassis is my Savage MKII rimfire bolt-action rifle. I’ll be doing a dedicated review of the Savage MKII with the MDT LSS Gen2, so keep an eye out for that.

Out Of The Box

I think my first words were, “What a beauty!”

The MDT LSS Gen2 is definitely one of those items that puts a smile on your face. The quality of the chassis is phenomenal and it’s very lightweight.

Included in the box are new fasteners, a sticker, a chamber flag, and a mint candy.

Swapping To The MDT Chassis

This is the first time that I’ve done a full chassis swap on a rifle and I couldn’t believe how simple it was.

First, I attached the Vertical Grip Elite, the SRS Lite buttstock, and the ORYX Bipod to the LSS Gen2 chassis.

Then I unfastened the two bolts from the old chassis and removed the action, barrel, and trigger as one piece.

Finally, I placed the action, barrel, and trigger into the new LSS Gen2 chassis and fastened the two new bolts which were included with the chassis. It’s that simple.

Just like that my Savage MKII went from a decently accurate plinker to a seriously accurate rimfire precision rifle!

Before & After

M-LOK Fore-End

Along the fore-end of the LSS Gen2 are M-LOK slots which allows shooters to add all sorts of accessories, like a bipod, hand stop, or additional weights on the sides for balance.

It came with a removable swivel mount but I’m using the MDT ORYX bipod which uses an M-LOK system, so I removed the swivel point and attached the ORYX bipod at the furthest M-LOK point.

The ORYX Bipod can fold, has adjustable legs, and a swivel lock so you can adjust the horizontal angle of the rifle. These features are excellent for when you’re shooting on awkward and uneven terrain.

Skeleton Rifle Stock Lite

I’m a big fan of the Skeleton Rifle Stock (SRS) Lite.

The cheek rest is adjustable up and down for proper line of sight.

It comes with 4 spacers to adjust the Length-Of-Pull, has an adjustable cheek rest, and has two spots for a QD mount.

It’s also CNC machined from 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminum, just like the chassis itself. This is a very nice and affordable buttstock.

There are other buttstocks by MDT that don’t require tooling to make adjustments. These can be nice for when you’re on the range and need to make a slight adjustment on the fly, or if you’re shooting with friends and they need to make a quick adjustment.

MDT Vertical Grip Elite

On this particular setup I’m using the Vertical Grip Elite. I’ve found it to help a lot with my trigger pull. It can be angled up to 10 degrees, and is also able to be moved back and forth by 10mm.

What I personally like to do when pulling the trigger is to rest my thumb on top of the grip.

Improved Accuracy

What you really want to know is how much more does the MDT chassis really improve your accuracy by?

The Savage MKII on it’s own had an accuracy of 0.750″ MOA at 40 meters.

I swapped the chassis on location in order to have a true before and after result, as weather conditions can greatly affect .22LR rounds.

With the MDT LSS Gen2, I got a group of 0.375″ MOA at 40 meters! That’s literally half the MOA from the original chassis.

Letting My Friends Try It Out

Some of my friends and I had a friendly .22LR competition, and my rifle was used the most.

It made even the most novice of shooters look like a competitive sport shooter.

Would I Recommend The MDT LSS Gen2?

Yes, I would highly recommend anyone looking to improve their rifle build to get an MDT chassis. They’re built with high quality materials, are affordable, and improve your rifles performance greatly.

Be sure to check what the specific chassis comes with. Some include the buttstock and grip, while others don’t.

Final Thoughts

The MDT LSS Gen2 chassis is a solid well-built chassis for a bolt-action rifle of many different actions. It’s made from CNC machined 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum with a nice Cerakote finish.

I personally couldn’t be happier with the MDT LSS Gen2 chassis. It looks awesome, and more importantly it functions exceptionally well. It makes my Savage MKII rimfire rifle look like a sniper rifle system! People are genuinely surprised when they find out that this build is a plinker.

Fun Fact: This was only the second time that I didn’t have anything negative to say about a product.
